I fish sky point around cottonwood cove marina, the two coves to the right of the marina. When do the smallmouth and largemouth typically spawn at cottonwood? Just recently started fishing there and have caught good Smallies, no Largies though. I’ve never seen this before but one day it was windy and I fished off the bank around a tree in the water. I tossed in a small finesse jig. A 3 plus pound largemouth came out along with a 1.5lb smallie and looked at the jig. The smallie nailed it. I released it down the bank about 20 ft to have a chance at largemouth. I never seen that largie again! I kept tossing that jig in there and it was in a foot of water towards the shoreline as the waves were crashing in that day. They were taking cover in the tree. I’ve never seen a smallie and largie hanging out like that together…
Smallmouth will start spawning in March.
Largemouth wait until the water warms a bit more. Usually April at Lake Mohave.
