Newly hatched Lake Mohave Smallmouth Bass Fry on the surface six feet above their nest with a male Smallie still keeping guard. The male kept out of frame in the vid since the boat had to be directly over the fry for a close-up without zoom lens.
Adult largemouth bass prefer to feed on small fish like perch, sunfish, and minnows. However, they are also known to eat crayfish, insects, frogs, and even small aquatic birds. A bass under two inches, known as a “fry,” will do not act as predators but instead feed on zooplankton and insect larvae.
Lake Mohave on the Arizona/Nevada is amazing with 240 miles of shoreline, spreading 67 miles from end to end, with Cottonwood Cove Resort & Marina located right in the center. It begins at Davis Dam in Bullhead City, Arizona and is just 14 miles east of historic Searchlight, Nevada, only 45 minutes north of Laughlin and an hour south of Las Vegas.
