Classic World Championship of Women’s Bass Fishing Slated – Lake Mohave
The WBFA Tour has chosen lake Eufaula as the site for their fifth Classic World Championship. Lake Point Resort will serve as the venue for housing and all functions of the weeklong event, scheduled for the week of November 10th through 16th. The top 34 women bass anglers in the nation will arrive in Eufaula, AL on the 9th, as they get set for the week of activities and competition.
The State of Alabama and the Eufaula/Barbour County Chamber of Commerce will act as hosts’ for the 2002 Classic World Championship. Eufaula is the home of one of the WBFA Tour’s national sponsors; Humminbird Electronics. Their other national sponsorship partners include: Mercury marine, Triton Boats by Earl Bentz, FlowMaster Exhaust Systems, Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits, DEKA Marine Master Batteries, Minn Kota, Kick’N Bass Scents and Eidolon Bait Company.
There is a CAST for Kids event, (CAST is an acronym for “Catch A Special Thrill”), planned for Sunday November 10th. Each of the 34 Pros will be paired with a disadvantaged kid from the Eufaula area and will take them out fishing. The kids will receive a new rod and reel outfit and tackle from the CAST for Kids national organization. They will also be given a plaque with a picture of themselves and their Pro partner-for-the-day as a memento of the occasion. There will be hot dogs and fixins for the kids and their families at the conclusion of the event at noon. The pros and their kid partners will take off from Lake Point Resort boat launch at approx. 9am on Sunday morning.
The Pros will practice on Monday and Tuesday as they prepare for the three-day competition on Thursday through Saturday. Competition will be from safe light until 3pm and the weigh in will start at 3pm promptly on all three days of competition. Current World Champion, Judy Wong of Sugar Land, TX, will be trying to defend her title against many of the best bass anglers in the country.
On Wednesday of Classic Week, the Pros will be paired with VIPs’ from around the state for a short bass tournament. The Pros and VIPs will fish as a team and the winning VIP will have a cash donation made, in her name, to her favorite Alabama Charity. The teams will take off from Lake Point Resort boat launch at approx. 7am and the weigh in will start promptly at 12 noon. There will be food for the Pros, VIPs, and media reps after the weigh in as well.
The three-day competition will begin on Thursday at safe light with weigh ins starting each day promptly at 3pm. The public is invited to attend the exciting weigh ins where there will be free tackle thrown to the crowd. There will be a banquet on Saturday night to honor the new World Champion and the 2002 Angler of the Year. – Lake Mohave
